ill be honest, i do not wish to post anything else Y2K3 related as i would feel obligated to provide tech support for it once more, and ive been out of the OFP scene for awhile. as much as i love the game; my future and soon-to-be career take more focus and attention. the same focus and attention i gave the Y2K3 mod.

Not a bother, TooTall.

I do hope the adjustment helps you or those who find your Y2K3 more enjoyable.

I've noticed a reduction in Mods that allow MP gameplay over the past 2 years. Hoping to find ways to correct that trend.

Would you be interested in hosting adjustments to Y2K3 as alternatives to 'stock' Y2K3 as I'm able to produce in a stable MP form? Thats my intention if I'm able to do so via re-coding it. I do not intend to in any way take Y2K3 from its presentation currently into a new form. I intend to provide a stable configuration for MP gameplay only.

Wook, dont be offended, i read your comments but removed the script ones from the chatbox just due to the ammount of space it took up, i didnt delete it to offend you.

in case i havnt made myself clear before, i havnt played OFP in years, nor have i modded equally as long. for reasons such as this i have ofered Y2K3 as open source. you are more then welcome to modify whatever you want or need to and ofer it to your clan/freinds/players of your server. i have no problems with this.

i named the mod Y2K3 which is Year 2003 because i brought it from 1985 to year 2003 stats. plus it sounded hip and modern

TooTall I have to say I do enjoy your mod. First finding it I hadn't expected much. Seemed almost like it was named after the Y2K phenom that generated countless hours of our in-house reassessment of our IT Infrastructure. Funny as that may sound to you.

Good mod. Atm trying to edit it to improve stability ingame.

Merely the client that is running Y2K3. The server is not running Y2K3 though. I am unsure what the outcome would be if the server was running Y2K3. In FFUR's case, even while running FFUR the full server crashes out innstead of just the client. For FFUR this is true even if the Client is the only system running FFUR. Again, with Y2K3 this does not happen. Am trying to figure out what is causing these crashes. Whether its an addon script, or, one of the ECP, GMR, Y2K3 effects scripts instead. Would like to have a version of Y2K3 that only provides Unit Replacement. Even the UR version config.bin of Y2K3 appears to stilll incorporate effects scripts.

Can't Do Something Smart - Do Something Right

Well as many of you may know recently i purchesed a Beretta Px4 as my new carry peice, shortly thereafter i found two occasions that i was glad i had it....

Last Month:
So tonight i was making some deliveries in and around Pittsburgh. I rolled off the 10th street bridge shortly after the steelers game let out; trust me there isn't a cuss word yet that could fully grasp the amount of anger i was feeling at that point. i sat at the 10th street/carson st light for 20 minutes because everyone kept gridlocking carson i was unable to make my turn. so now extremely behind schedule. moving at half the speed of smell.

i find my way down to my delivery point. do my thing. get back in, fight my way back onto carson and head toward station square so i can make my next delivery downtown and such. as im sitting in traffic, i realize my gun has shifted ever so slightly and is sort of digging into me a bit, so i reach down, uncover it; keep in mind im in a big rig, noone outside the vehicle can see my waist and see my weapon; no lets not go down the "waving it around" road again; and grasp the grip (almost as if i was going to draw it) and turn my holster a bit. just as i get it right, i suddenly hear my passenger side door open.

well needless to say at this point i pulled my weapon partially from the holster, enough that i could fully draw if i had to, but not a full draw. my hand firmly on the grip, weapon exposed right before trigger and trigger gaurd, which at this point are still covered by the kydex layer of the holster, which is just at the waist line. i am not ready to go full draw as i need to assess the situation and identify the subject as friend or foe before proceeding to anything else. my finger is straight down/out in the "Safe" postion, even though the trigger wasnt exposed i still choose the "Safty" postion for my finger. i see a young girl, mid 20s, looking at me. at this time in my mind ive classified her as a moderate threat, rather than the high threat level i had classified the subject as before the door was fully opened; no need to fully draw my weapon as a show of force, however keeping my posture as a precaution; in the event there may be more unseen parties to this event. (ie: an accomplice?) i see no obvious weapon in her hands at this point, however i am slightly fearful as i am unable to leave this potentially dangerous situation (unknown person trying to enter my vehicle) and i dont know whats going to happen next.

Me: *hand on weapon, glaring at the passenger side*
Girl: *door in her hand looks up at me*
Me: *stern tone* why are you opening my door??
Girl: *looks confused; yet angry/snippy* what?!
Me: *stern tone* Why. Are you opening. My Door??
Girl: *looks at me, studies my posture, notices my weapon, slams door, runs away into some diner on the corner*
Me: *fully holsters weapon again; fixes it so its comfortable once more, pulls shirt back down* well alrighty then.

after this i found the nearest LEO, waved him over, explained to him, that in the event they get a call, the situation that had transpired. i explained that someone had opened my passenger side door, i exposed my weapon, she ran off. that was that. the LEO looked at me, nodded and said "well, you do what you gotta do" which to be honest im not entirely sure what that was suppose to mean. i know some of you will tell me i wasnt required to tell him, but i figured the crazy nutjob would call the police, and since my companys name is on the damn door, tell them that some crazy driver had a gun and whatnot. so to keep the police from chasing thier tails since the night was hectic enough with 10 calls a minute coming in for violence and insanity from the drunken sports fans, they didnt need to be wasting thier time with a non-issue.

i made my last 4 deliveries un-bothered. police were awfully busy tonight. lights and sirens almost all night. thank GOD i do not live in that insane asylum they call Pittsburgh anymore.

now before i get the FAQ's i will answer them for you

Q) Why was the passenger side door unlocked?

A) because i often need to retrieve gear from that side of the truck from street level; and because one one of our trucks that lock is broken, so im not used to messing with it even if i wanted to

Q) why not lock it and use the key when you get out?

A) because in order for the interior lights of the trailer to work, the key must remain in the ignition and in the "on" postion. dont ask me what moron came up with that design, but thats how it works.

so yeah stuck in traffic for almost an hour, and having someone try to truck-jack me or whatever her nutjob intentions were made my night ever so interesting.

i would like to make a few things VERY clear:
1) the ONLY person that saw my weapon was the person attempting to enter my vehicle.

2) my weapon was NEVER fully drawn or pointed/aimed at anyone. she didnt have a weapon i could see, i did not feel the need to go pointing my gun to show i ment business. showing was enough of a deterrent.

3) a potentially dangerous situation was defused within a matter of seconds without anyone being hurt, and was done so safely, peacefully, and within the law.

dispite my outward rambo-esqe attitude on life, you may find this hard to beleive but hurting other people is NEVER my goal. it always is, and always will be my absolute last resort is to harm another person; and ending them is an even more absolute last last last resort. i am only trigger happy with a box of FMJs and a paper target. otherwise i hope my weapon is never discharged in the line of sight of another living person.

============================

Last Night:
On my way home form work i stopped in brookline to pickup my fiance, who was staying at her moms so she could get her hair dyed. shortly thereafter on the way down Rt51/saw mill run blvd (toward pittsburgh) i see a black male, light blue steelers shirt and jeans, and a woman in a yellow steelers dress, torn slightly, walking down the middle of the road; cars going all around them; shes in tears and upset and hes seems to be following her.

i drew my weapon, layed it in my lap casually, hand on it, opened my window asked what was going on. noone else seemed to stop or even care! i had my weapon read as a precaution, its 4am, dark, and i dont know whats going on but something wasnt right; the male "claimed" she stole his phone and proceeded to beg me to 'pull in front of her and stop her'. she was crying saying "why wont anyone stop to help me". he begged me to stop her as she started to walk away again, then noticing my weapon in hand (NOT POINTED AT HIM, i was still assessing the situation and he was not a threat to me at this time) quickly decided he no longer wanted to continue the conversation with me (wonder why? ).

i called 911 as i drove a tiny bit and pulled safely off the road; got out, weapon reholstered, but shirt tucked behind it so i could draw once more if need be. i figure i am out of the car at this point and could use my physical size as a deterrent at this point; at this point, having already noted that im armed, the male took off and i called her over to my vehicle and tryed to calm her down til police arrived; they did within a few minutes. stopped facing the oppisit direction and came over to speak with the woman.

a freelance tow truck driver that contracts with the city PD, who was listening in on the scanner spotted the man after he took off and aided police in his capture by boxing him in and he was captured. (he pulled up behind me after the officer was on scene, i requested he put his flashing yellow lights on because my hazzard lights were causing anyone to slow down or even move over)

it turns out it was an attempted kidnapping (listening from a distance as the victim gave her story to the officer)

apperently.. she asked a stranger for a ride home... and he wasnt going where she asked, when she tried to get out he beat her and tried to drag her back. if cars would stop he would claim she stole his phone and they would drive off beleiving him, and when they would he procceded to attack her more (her wounds and torn dress corroborated this story).

2 things i learned from this incident.

1) the average "passerby" is an iggnorant self centered fucktard and should have the shit slapped out of them!! when i stopped the first 6 or 8 cars in front of me drove around them not even the slightest bit interested in a "damsel in distress" but if it was thier daughter whats the first thing they would be whining??? "why didnt anyone stop to help" god i hate people more and more.....

and 2) carrying a firearm is an excellent conversation piece... it makes good people want to have a conversation with you and it makes bad people want to leave you the fuck alone. thats twice now just the visual on my weapon has detured the un-nice.

-----------------------------

In other news firearm related i got my tactical gear from www.simplesurvival.info . Got a Crossdraw vest fully adjustable that features 3 AR mag pouchs, 3 pistol mag pouchs, crossdraw holster with buckle retention and extra mag pouch on holster (for my 9000s), pistol belt with 2 more pistol mag pouchs, tactical leg holster with extra mag pouch on side, thumbbreak retention strap (for my Px4), delayed shipping, but expected soon single point/double point sling for my Cx4, and a shotgun scabbard (possibly mountable on my vest with its modular design) for my Mossberg 500 Cruiser. I simply love my tac gear; and furthermore its also my halloween costume so it arrived in the nick of time too gonna be a Freelance Mercenary for halloween.

It is shipped in a heavy duty synthetic storage tube complete with resealable top and nylon carrying strap. It also includes a waterproof 'Survival Kit-In-A-Can and everything is packaged in a heavy duty resealable bag. The case is air tight and waterproof to a depth of 40' when properly installed.

I just got a new holster from Comp-Tac

http://www.comp-tac.com/

it is possibly the best holster I've ever owned! feels so comfortable, so nice. the leather/kydex hybrid is amazing. I highly recommend their holsters to anyone with a sidearm. Checkem out!

i ordered it last Tuesday, it was shipped this Tuesday, due to its custom made it takes 5 to 6 days to produce. i got it today. on the invoice it said "Thanks Greg, ~Misty" i thought that was a nice handwritten personal touch. also a small packet of smarties was included in with my holster, i don't know why but it was a nice gesture! its the little things that make great customer service. i will totally be buying from them again
